1) How many of the 12 magazine cover key conventions feature on this edition of Reveal? List them with specific reference to the convention on the CSP edition of Reveal.
out of the 12 conventions, 9/12 are mentioned. those not mentioned are free offer, competitions and and date. the conventions actually used are the title of publication which is showed in the top third of the magazine to be easily visible and uses a sans-serif font in all of its magazines. Due to the fact that, Reveal has a strong brand identity, the title is covered by the faces of two celebrities featured in the magazine. Reveal does not do have a single central image, but instead 7 smaller images scattered around the cover of the magazine. These consist of a majority of paparazzi shots that aren't professionally taken in a studio. Reveal magazine has multiple flash lines in their magazine covers and they are normally placed alongside each image in the magazine. 

2) What is the font choice used on the cover and what does this choice connote?
The font choice used is sans serif meaning it is quite a modern and inexpensive magazine. it also lacks authority and is more informal compared to tatler. 

3) How do the cover lines appeal to the Reveal target audience?
because they are from a lower class the vocabulary used is simplified and abbreviated for example the use of 'stuff the diet', it is worded very informally and also the use of 'carbs' instead of carbohydrates. additionally the topics referenced are to do with: beauty, motherhood and relationships and because the main target audience gender is a white-British woman in mid 20s, it connotes that when women aren't trying to look attractive or sexy, they're taking care of children or a family.  

4) What are the connotations of the Reveal colour scheme on this particular front cover?
Reveal has used a dark pink which is associated with femininity, confidence and maturity, indicating that the magazine is mature and confident in its information and also can suggest its aimed at women. the use of red connotes enthusiasm and fun, suggesting that this magazine is passionate about its news and 'reveals' all the fun and entertaining gossip at the same time. Yellow can be associated with joy and is used for the background of the price meaning the low, inexpensive cost may bring joy to the readers.

5) How are images used to create interest in the magazine? Find three reasons for your answer. (E.g. mise-en-scene such as props, costume and make-up, body position, facial expression).
The image to the centre of the cover is edited so that makes it seem as if the two people are talking which also supports the flash line that accompanies it. At the bottom of the page, the two women are pictured with fast food, which is something that relates the psychographics of Reveal since the Strugglers and Mainstreamers would typically eat junk food too, making the magazine relatable creating personal identity according the Blumler and Katz's audience pleasures and gratifications. 

6) What differences can you find between the use of design and typography between Tatler and Reveal? List at least three and explain the effect on audiences.
Tatler uses a Serif font to make it seem old and established to the audience and it hold high athuroity whereas with Reveal, its highly contrasting because they use a Sans-Serif font to make it seem modern and relatable to the audience. Tatler magazine uses a single image for its cover, which makes the magazine look neater and seem more appealing to its audience and also shows it is more of an organised and high budgeted magazine because there is an arranged photo shoot for each cover, contrasting to Reveal which uses multiple paparazzi images on its front cover, causing the magazine to seem messy and unorganised and low-budgeted.

1) What type of celebrities appear on the front cover? How are they represented in Reveal? (Positive? Negative? Reinforcing or challenging stereotypes?)
in Reveal the celebrities that appear are more 'everyday' celebs unlike in Tatler where it features supermodels or actresses. they do occasionally appear more mainstream celebs like Cheryl Cole and Beyonce. From this a negative connotation could be that there are only 2 male celebrities featured and also all of them except Beyonce are white celebs, which reflects the target audience as its aimed at white-british females, who are featured the most on the front cover.

2) How are women represented on the cover of Reveal? Think about both images and cover lines here.
women are represented in a very stereotypical way because they are linked to motherhood, creating an communication to the audience that women should be concerned with having children and starting a family. this idea reinforces the stereotypes of women being maternal. they are also presented as being vain, materialistic and spiteful , only caring about their looks and other people's personal lives and business as it features cover lines regarding skincare and female celebrities in the spotlight presented in a very done up manner, suggesting those are the beauty standards nowadays and women should aspire to be like that. also the top right corner features numerous cover lines regarding relationships. 'at home with mark and michelle' reinforces not only the stereotype that women are maternal and homemakers but also that women are involved with love and relationships constantly. 
3) How do Reveal and Tatler represent social class? (E.g. middle/upper class and working class)
the target audience is a working-lower class and they are represented in somewhat a negative light because it connotes that the working class are interested with gossip and as the writers use more "accessible" and "understandable" vocabulary it implies that the lower-working classes are no well-educated.  

4) What would be the preferred and oppositional readings to this cover of Reveal?
The preferred reading of this magazine would be that we receive exclusive gossip and its like our best-friend. This is because the magazine uses abbreviated terminology to make it sound as if it is somebody who is talking to us, rather than just giving us information. 

The oppositional reading of this magazine would be they treat the audience as uneducated this is because the magazine uses simplistic language, which may make the audience feel as if they are being treated like they aren't intelligent enough for sophisticated language.


Social and cultural context

1) What aspects of British life are reflected in Reveal? How does this compare to Tatler?
In Reveal , British life is mainly reflected as if its centred around gossip and motherhood, relationships. This is a high contrast to Tatler, which tends to focus on the higher class' lives, the luxuries and the fashion and beauty they're interested in, which is something that Reveal's audience rarely experiences

2) What do the cover lines in Reveal suggest about the issues and lifestyle of Reveal readers?
the cover lines vividly imply that the target audience demographic are concerned with dieting, health and beauty as they mention 'Exclusive! One simple trick for the best skin ever' and also 'stuff the diet'. additionally it also illustrates that they're also interested in relationships as most of the cover lines are mentioning the inside gossip on celebs relationship status and on of the main front images is relating to a divorced couple made to look like they are 'plotting secret meetings'.
