December PPE learner response

 1) Type up your feedback in full - WWW & EBI. You do not have to write your mark and grade if you don't want to.

WWW: a solid effort with all qs in the paper in particular Q1.2 and Q1.3                                                 able to recall important theory for audience/narrative

EBI: bring in more evidence for the extended 20 mark response - examples from the CSP episodes. mention how audiences have helped promote doctor whop franchise

Q1- 2/2 Q2 - 6/8 Q3 - 8/12 Q4 - 12/20

2) Write a definition for a preferred reading to make sure you know this terminology. The original blogpost for Reception theory may help with this.

preferred reading is the intended message the producers want the consumers to take away

3) Write a list of any narrative theories that you DIDN'T use for your answer to question 1.2. How could you have used these in the Doctor Who clip in the exam?

i did not use the Barthes enigma and action code theory, and i would apply it as the action code of ian and the doctor about to arguing which connotes they might fight.

4) Write three ways in which a modern audience might respond differently to Doctor Who: An Unearthly Child compared to an audience at the time.

~ they could react negatively to Ians stereotypical aggressive male role in the 60s

~ they could react well if they understand the the doctor is trying to protect his granddaughter -Susan

~ also they could react badly as in the 1960s TV programmes were highly dominated by men and British white ethnicity

5) Write a plan for question 2 in the assessment - the 20-mark essay on Doctor Who as a franchise. Use the mark scheme to help you and aim to plan an introduction, conclusion and at least three detailed paragraphs.

  •  Doctor Who's target audience, as it was suitable and open to everyone as it is a family programme and because in the 60s there were only 2 TV channels, there wasn't much choice and this could have attracted a wide audience. Doctor Who is the most iconic show produced by the BBC ( a public service broadcaster ) and made them the most income.
  • Class is a spin-off series from Doctor Who but did not do as well as the original and did not make them near enough money as Doctor Who. Class had a different target audience- aimed towards young adults- meaning the show was aired later as it featured violence and sexual content unlike Doctor Who. It had to be moved onto iPlayer to appeal to its target audience but still did not manage to gain any more recognition. Then Class was cancelled and no longer continued as a series.
  • At the time Doctor Who was first aired in the 60s, many global events occurred such as the first man of the moon and the first man in space. These are scientific related milestones possibly attracting an audiences to the Sci-Fi genre.

6) What topics do you need to revise for future Paper 2 exams? List at least three topics, theories or CSPs.

Blumler and Katz uses and gratifications
Barthes enigma and action codes
Including evidence form the CSP
