The scene opens with a medium shot as we can see 3/4 of the characters body and the background. It is also an over the shoulder shot because we can see her from behind. This shot focuses more on the background environment and the character’s gestures and body movements, while still being close enough to capture their emotions. In this scene she is panicked and worried that someone is in the house.
Halfway through the scene (1:48), we see the character fall down the stairs and then we get a close up shot of her face. This is used as it allows her reaction and emotions to dictate the scene. The character in this scene becomes the main focus which will help the audience engage with the characters thoughts and feelings without being distracted by the background. We see her face which is full of fear and she is distraught. She does not know who or what is in her house and what pushed her down the stairs.
The ending shot is a medium shot of the door shut closed and rattling yet unable to be opened. This makes the audience aware of danger and risk in this film. Also the effect of closing a scene like that makes the audience more alert and grabs their attention as it leaves them wondering what happened to the character.
One camera angle used in the scene is an eye level angle is portrays the characters point of view, which is used for the viewers to concentrate on the characters emotions in the scene. It gives a sense of objectivity as it is normally used to portray one character and their state of mind in that scene.
There is also use of high angles when the character is pushed down the stairs to show who/what pushed her down is superior, dominant and has more power than her. The shot of her at the bottom of the stairs in pain shows that she is less superior and more inferior to the other person/being.
At 1:13 in the video you can see the use of a zoom. When she falls down the stairs the camera zooms in for about 2 seconds to create a sense of tension and suspense. It also gives of a sense of urgency and danger as it becomes tense and magnifies the fact that she is in pain.
There is also a use of a tilt at 2:01 when she runs up the stairs as the light bulb bursts. This can be used to simply show the type of movement as shes going up the stairs. By using ta tilt, it helps to fit more into a single frame. This slow upwards tilt can be effective in making the character appear bigger.
