Mise-en-scene Stranger Things analysis

Props:
In stranger things it is set in an 1980's era and this is shown by the props used in the show, such as the board games the boys were playing and the television set the dad was fixing, also the rotary dial phone the sister was using all indicate and tell the audience when this show is set in. This is because there is no indication of any modern day technology or devices in the clip. This can make the audience wonder what will come next and why it is set in the 80's which will make them want to watch more and more.

Setting:
It is set in the 1980's in America and we can infer this by the props used in the second scene. The first scene is set in an asylum looking building which can give of hints of danger which excites the audience and intrigues them to watch more. Then it switches to the basement of mikes house where his friends and him are playing a board game. The basement is lit dimly with one lamp, which was possibly done purposely by the producers as it links t the part when they lose the dice and are unable to find it.

Lighting:
The lighting in this show first starts of with flashing hallway lights and alarm sirens which indicate danger and a possibility that something has gotten out of hand. Then we see dark night lighting which is used to give off a supernatural eerie vibe as at night and in the dark, unnatural things usually happen. Then we switch to Will's house where the lights are flickering, like in the first scene, which tells the audience that something is not right and an evil spirit or unwanted being is present. The lighting in these scenes informs the audience about the type of mood is set and the danger that certain characters can be in.
