Statement of Intent draft 3
David
and Nicole are two teenagers in love....from the outside. Behind closed doors,
there's shootings, torture and hostages. You want to stay on the outside.
"We just thought they were two teenagers having a teenage relationship."
Nicole- ‘damsel in distress’ and
hero
David- villain
Cameron and Michael- helpers

1: medium shot. Nicole tied up, sitting on the floor to show her hostage role
in this scene (disequilibrium theory). terror and fear across her face-
reinforce horror movie conventions. I want to have her makeup smudged and
mascara running from her eyes to show she has been crying, causing audiences to
wonder why.

2: reveal the diaries (survelliance) documenting David's previous murders and
sketches of floor plans (mise-en-scene). extreme close up to zoom in on her
face- emphasise the significance of this moment. diary and sketches are vital
in communicating mystery and obscurity to the audience. This is all diversion
as this isn’t an everyday setting and discovery.
• Pic
3: high angle looking down on Nicole, medium shot to get both man’s shadow and
Nicole's position on floor captured. by only revealing silhouette of man
instead of his face connotes danger and sets an eerie tone. binary opposition
of light (v) dark is portrayed in these pictures.
Audience
I intend to target a niche
independent movie audience by creating personal identity (Blumler and Katz's)
for the audience to relate to the cast and create relationships with the
characters. age rating at 15+.
Representation
Main characters subvert stereotypes
of a typical cast in horror movie. Would usually see an all-white cast however
I have a character from each major background: white, black and different Asian
backgrounds. Both homo and heterosexual relationships are represented, allowing
a broader range of people and sexualities to relate to the characters. Women
are rarely seen as a main character as well as adopted children. This targets
niche communities. The director is female which subverts the usual stereotypes.
